Tar Sands Rainbow Action, Brighton - Sat 10th April, 12pm
Tar sands rainbow action - converge midday at Lewes Road Community Garden, Brighton, Saturday 10th April. We'll go on from there Tent, food, all weather clothing, entertainment. Grab it, converge and let's swoop!
Tar Sands seems far away and important maybe but not the end of the world.
WRONG! Tar sands is the biggest single emitter of green house gases IN THE WORLD. If it carries on expanding it will shove the world's climate over the edge into runaway climate change.
That's important. Yes!
It's also a bloody living hell for the indigenous tribes who have inhabited this ancient forest since the beginning of time.
Eriel Tchekwie Deranger, of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation of Northern Alberta, says: “The tar sands is the world’s largest and most destructive industrial development. It is destroying an area of ancient forest larger than England. Millions of litres a day of toxic waste are seeping into our groundwater and we are seeing terrifyingly high levels of cancer in our communities.”
Climate Camp has been campaigning to stop tar Sands since last summer when First Nation representatives visited us at our camp at Blackheath.
We urge everyone, every group and organisation, family, friends and long lost cousins to join us in Brighton on a mass action involving a swoop, a pow wow and a celebration of community involving singing, a picnic, a jolly good dance.
In accordance with the desires of the Cree will shall be peaceful, we shall not wear masks. We shall be the warriors of the rainbow.
Bring food to share, a pop up tent, bunting, music, energy, - you think it might be useful? Bring it!

This call to action is on behalf of the UK Tar Sands Network, Rising Tide, the Camp for Climate Action and the Indigenous Environmental Network to force BP to reverse their crazy plans to move into Canada’s tar sands. Grassroots groups across the UK and around the world, will be taking action in solidarity with First Nations communities in Canada to stop BP’s deadly plans in their tracks.
